Create an event

Create an event on Meet Near Me to share what is happening, when it starts, and where people should go. You can publish a simple event, collect free registrations, sell tickets, or send attendees to an external event page.

Follow these steps for a single event that people can attend without registering.

  1. Open Create Event. Sign in and select Create Event in the navigation, or open the event creation page.
  2. Choose Start from scratch. This opens a blank event that you can fill in.
  3. Enter your Event Details. Give the event an Event Name and a Description explaining what guests can expect. For example, describe who the event is for, what will happen, and anything guests should bring.
  4. Set the Schedule. Enter the Start Date & Time. Add an End Date & Time if you know when the event will finish. Leave Enable Multi-Event Series off for a single date. Enter times as they occur at the event’s location.
  5. Confirm the Location. Enter the address, select Confirm Address, and check the returned address and map. Wait for Address Confirmed before continuing.
  6. Choose No registration needed. In Registration & Tickets, select No registration needed. People can RSVP or add the event to their calendar; you do not need to configure a registration form or payment account for this setup.
  7. Publish. Under Event Details, set Publish Status to Published, then select Publish at the bottom of the editor. Wait for the Event updated successfully confirmation.
  8. Open and share your event. Select Event Page near the top of the editor to open the event in a new tab. Review the details and share that page’s link with your guests.
Watch: Create and publish an event

Your event is now saved. The editor stays open so you can make further changes. Categories, tags, a featured image, custom styling, calendar submissions, and paid promotions can be configured separately.

The Choose a starting point screen also offers prepared setups:

Starting pointWhat it prepares
Live musicA music category, suggested description, a background theme, and registration with a required guest-name question.
Free Informal MeetupA meetup category, suggested description, a theme, and free registration with a required guest-name question.
Lecture SeriesA shared description and location for multiple dates, a theme, and registration with a required guest-name question. Two date rows are prepared for you to complete.

Select a template, then replace the suggested content with your event’s actual details. Review the registration, appearance, and schedule settings before saving.

You can also choose Start from a recent event. Select Reuse event to copy the setup into a new event, then choose new dates and review everything before publishing. Reusing an event does not change the original.

Under Event Details:

  • Select a suggested category to add it, or type a category and press Enter.
  • Type each tag and press Enter to add it.
  • Use the remove button on a category or tag to remove it.

Press Enter for each typed entry before saving. Text still sitting in the category or tag input has not yet been added to the event.

In Registration & Tickets, choose one approach:

OptionUse it when
No registration neededGuests can attend without completing registration. They can still RSVP or add the event to their calendar.
External event pageTickets, RSVPs, registration, or additional information are handled on another website. Enter the destination in External URL.
Manage registration on Meet Near MeYou want guests to register for free or purchase tickets and add-ons through Meet Near Me.

No registration needed and Free Ticket are different setups. A free ticket uses Meet Near Me’s registration flow without collecting payment.

  1. Select Manage registration on Meet Near Me.
  2. Complete the first ticket card, including its Ticket name.
  3. Leave Item Type as Ticket (creates check-in).
  4. Choose Free Ticket.
  5. Leave Ticket prices don’t change selected for a simple setup.
  6. Choose No Limit, or choose Limited Capacity and enter Total Capacity.
  7. Add any Customer questions you want guests to answer.
  8. Save or publish the event.

Free registrations do not require a Stripe payment account. If you need the name of each person attending, add a required name question to the ticket. The prepared templates already include one.

The event owner must complete Stripe payment-account setup before you can configure paid tickets or paid add-ons.

  1. Save your work as a draft before leaving the editor.
  2. Open your account’s Payment Account section and complete Stripe setup.
  3. Return to the event editor and select Manage registration on Meet Near Me.
  4. Give the item a name and choose its Item Type:
    • Ticket (creates check-in) for admission.
    • Add-on (no check-in) for an extra item that does not create an admission check-in.
  5. Select Paid Ticket or Paid Add-On and review the price.
  6. Review the displayed processing fees, platform fee, and Total Price.
  7. Set inventory and any customer questions, then save or publish.

Use Add another ticket or item when you need another admission option or add-on with its own name, pricing, questions, or capacity.

Choose Timed Ticket Tiers or Timed Add-On Tiers to change an item’s price at scheduled cutovers, such as an early-bird price followed by a regular price.

  • Name each tier and set its price when using paid pricing.
  • Set the cutover between each pair of tiers.
  • Use Add a price tier to add another stage.
  • Set an event end time so the final tier has an end point.

The first tier is available immediately once the event and ticket are available to guests. Each subsequent tier starts when the previous one ends, with no gap. The final tier ends with the event. All cutovers use the event’s local time.

Customer questions belong to the ticket or add-on where you attach them.

  1. On the relevant card, select Add a question.
  2. Choose a question type:
    • Text for a short written answer.
    • Options for a choice from a list; add the choices using Add option.
    • Checkbox for a yes/no confirmation.
  3. Enter the Question and turn on Required if guests must answer it.
  4. Select Save Question.
  5. Save or publish the event to persist the updated registration setup.

To use the same question on another ticket or add-on, select Add a question on that card and choose it under Reuse an existing question.

Use a series for several dates that share an overview and location.

  1. In Schedule, turn on Enable Multi-Event Series.
  2. Select Add another date to create a date row.
  3. Enter the start date and time for each occurrence, plus its end time if known.
  4. Add the other dates and complete the shared event details.
  5. Save or publish the series.

The series overview’s start and end are calculated from its dates. Its start is the earliest occurrence’s start, and its end uses the latest occurrence’s end, falling back to that occurrence’s start when its end is blank.

In Sharing & Promotion, use Organizer if the public host should be someone other than the event owner’s account name—for example, an organization that does not have a Meet Near Me account.

This changes the public Host display. It does not transfer ownership of the event.

Under Sharing & Promotion, search in Submit event to calendars by name, calendar, or email. Type at least three characters, then select the matching result. You can select more than one calendar.

New selections appear as pending. Publish the event to submit it. A pending submission is awaiting the receiving calendar’s approval; it is not confirmation that the event is already listed there.

If you arrived through a calendar’s submission link, check the banner at the top of the editor. It identifies the calendar you are submitting to.

Paid Promotions is separate from ordinary calendar submission and ticket sales. It purchases featured placement on an eligible calendar.

  1. Save the event first so promotion controls become available.
  2. Find a calendar using Add More Promotions, or use the calendar already shown if you followed a promotion link.
  3. Review the placement price and any instructions from that calendar.
  4. Select Promote Event, or the matching search result, to start checkout.
  5. Complete checkout and wait for confirmation when you return.

Confirmed calendars appear under Currently Promoted On. Each calendar promotion has its own checkout. Saving the event alone does not complete a promotion purchase.

In Appearance, upload a Featured Image if you want one displayed with the event. The preview lets you check your selection before saving.

For styling, choose:

  • No theme to use the standard event appearance.
  • Custom theme to choose an effect and customize its available controls.

Effects include Monochrome, Confetti, Starfield, Polygon Swarm, Fog, Cells, Graph Paper, Wavy, Scales, and Cross. Depending on the effect, you can adjust colors, opacity, spacing, or light/dark mode. Not every effect exposes every setting.

Save or publish the event to keep appearance changes.

Saving drafts and editing published events

Section titled “Saving drafts and editing published events”
  • To save a draft, set Publish Status to Unpublished and select Save as Draft. To publish it later, select Published and then Publish.
  • Changing the status, editing a field, previewing a theme, or selecting an image does not save the event by itself. Wait for the save confirmation before leaving.
  • Drafts still go through validation. Complete the basic event details, confirmed location, and schedule, plus any enabled ticket or series setup.
  • The same editor is used after creation. Its success message says Event updated successfully for both a first save and subsequent changes.
  • Share the Event Page link with guests, rather than the editing page’s address.
  • Confirm the address rather than relying only on the map preview. If you change the address, select Confirm Address again.
  • The confirmed event location determines the event’s time zone. Enter the time at that location, even if your device is in a different time zone.
  • Review the schedule and any tier cutovers after changing the event location.
  • Choose an end time later than the start. An end time is optional for a simple single event, but required for timed ticket or add-on tiers.
  • A time that is skipped or repeated during a daylight-saving clock change cannot be saved. Choose an unambiguous local time if the editor reports this problem.
  • A series needs at least one occurrence, and every occurrence needs a start date and time. This validation also applies when saving a draft.
  • Edit an individual series occurrence through its parent series. Opening the editor for a child occurrence directs you to edit the parent instead.

Ticket prices, capacity, and registration changes

Section titled “Ticket prices, capacity, and registration changes”
  • Each ticket or add-on needs a name. Newly configured paid prices must be greater than zero; choose Free Ticket or Free Add-On for a free item.
  • The currency selector currently offers USD. The displayed CAD, EUR, and GBP options are disabled.
  • Use the fee breakdown shown for your event instead of assuming one fixed fee. Platform-fee eligibility and the calendar through which a purchase is made can affect charges. A platform-fee waiver does not remove card-processing fees.
  • No Limit means uncapped inventory. Under Limited Capacity, enter a whole number of zero or more. Zero is not the same as unlimited.
  • Available inventory accounts for both completed sales and items Held in checkout. You cannot lower total capacity below the combined sold and held quantities.
  • Price tiers on one item use that item’s capacity. Create another ticket or item when you need separately configured inventory.
  • Timed tiers need cutovers in chronological order, all before the event ends. Changing the event’s end updates the final tier’s end point.
  • Switching from timed tiers to Ticket prices don’t change keeps the highest configured tier price and removes the timing setup. Review the retained price.
  • The first ticket/item card cannot be deleted with the card’s remove control. To stop collecting registration, change the event’s registration approach.
  • Saving after switching to No registration needed or External event page clears the event’s configured Meet Near Me tickets and customer questions. Switching to Meet Near Me registration clears the native event’s external URL. Review the selected approach before saving an existing event.
  • Question text must be unique across the event. Reuse an existing question when the wording should be shared. Editing that shared question updates it wherever it is attached; removing it from one item does not remove it from other items.

The recent-event picker shows up to five of your most recently created eligible published events. These are events you own and created directly on Meet Near Me; drafts, imported events, and events merely shared onto your calendar are not eligible.

When reusing an event:

  • Enter new event dates and times, including every date in a reused series.
  • Review the copied description, address, image, categories, theme, questions, ticket prices, and capacities.
  • Previous sales and checkout holds are not carried over. Review capacity for the new event.
  • Timed pricing is reset to a single price using the highest configured tier. Reconfigure timed tiers if you want them for the new event.
  • Re-enter an external event URL if using External event page.
  • Choose calendar submissions and paid promotions for the new event separately.
  • Event Owner and Shared By describe different relationships. Submitting an event to another calendar does not make that calendar the event’s owner.
  • You can remove yourself from a calendar relationship after saving the event. The editor does not let you remove another calendar on its behalf.
  • Removing your own calendar listing does not transfer primary ownership. The primary owner can use Restore to my calendar if their listing was removed.
  • A submission link and a promotion link can produce different banners and next steps. Read the banner and any calendar-specific instructions before continuing.
  • After promotion checkout, confirmation may take a little time. If the page says confirmation is taking longer than expected, refresh and check the promotion status before starting another checkout.
  • Featured images must be JPEG, PNG, or WebP, with a maximum size of 10 MB. Images are resized to fit 752 pixels.
  • Tags beginning with mnm_bg: are reserved for appearance settings. Use the Custom theme controls to change background effects.
  • An event imported from another source cannot use Meet Near Me ticketing or registration. Its editor displays a notice explaining that restriction. Create a new event directly on Meet Near Me if you need to manage registration here.
